Did you know that Cisco recently revised its CCNA certification and CCNA concentration exams? The revision allows for associate level concentration such as Route/Switch, Voice, Security, Wireless, Service Provider, and Design. This will allow Cisco customers whom are interested in certification to better align their certs. with their day to day jobs.
Cisco has also modified and added to the training curriculum for the ICND1, ICND2 and CCNAX exams and has written new exams for ICND1, ICND2 and CCNA Composite. The additions include troubleshooting, upcoming technologies such as IPv6, and updated IOS on Cisco routers and switches.
Cisco Associate Level Certification Redesign
With the associate-level program redesign, candidates now need to pass only two exams to achieve advanced technology certifications in an accelerated manner with the right job skills. These certifications include:
- CCNA Routing and Switching
- CCNA Security
- CCNA Voice
- CCNA Wireless
- CCNA SP Operations
- CCNA Data Center
- CCNA Video
- CCNA Service Provider
- CCNA SP Operations
I foresee a full CCNA becoming required along with the concentration course for more of the above listed certifications as time passes. Routing and switching knowledge is becoming increasingly essential to meet the industry job role requirements. As of today all concentration certifications required only a CCENT (ICND1) certification along with the specialized course with the exception of CCDA which requires no accompanying certification. A valid CCENT certification will be a prerequisite beginning October 1, 2013 for a CCDA certification.
If you have previously taken the ICND v1 or CCNA v1 classes and planned to test, fear not, the version 1 test for both ICND and composite CCNA exams will still be available till 9-30-2013.
